Microsoft just unveiled Maia 300, its new in-house AI chip built to cut its reliance on Nvidia.

The third-generation chip, made on TSMC's N2P process, starts running production AI workloads in 2027. Microsoft says it delivers 40% more tokens per megawatt than leading GPU-based systems and up to 7x the rack-scale throughput of Maia 200, and it plans to make Maia the main AI inference system behind its products and services.
